Sarah Jane Ricketts Fox
 

Ricketts is also spelled Rickeots, Rickeotts, Rickett, Rickets, Ricket, Rickel, Rickle, Rickels, and Rickles.

 

In the 1830s settlers began arriving in Iowa from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana, Kentucky, and Virginia. Iowa became a state in 1846.

The Civil War had more casualties than any other American war. Disease and infection were the biggest killers.

Sarah Jane Ricketts Fox was born May 2, 1844 in Henry, Marshall County, Illinois. Her parents were Isaac and Catherine Ricketts.

She married John Newton Fox on January 6, 1863 in the middle of the Civil War when she was about nineteen. Their children and life together are described in detail in the section on John and Sarah Fox.

Sarah died November 18, 1885 at age 41. At first she was buried in New York Cemetery in Wayne County and later moved to the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa by her daughter Mae McKelvey.
